One of the Best New Discipleship Books Uses the “TruthSticks” Strategy

discipleship_booksIt’s interesting to note that no matter how far we progress as a society, some of the most profound truths are found in first-century methods of storytelling.  Acknowledging this, one of the latest discipleship books from NavPress is revolutionizing Bible teaching for small group studies.  If you’ve ever wondered how to promote disciplemaking in your church, it may be something as simple as learning how they did it back in the early days of the church.  Back then, people didn’t read that much, but somehow they were able to learn and apply Biblical truths and stories and relate them to others with ease.  How did they do this?  Through oral storytelling, of course.

In one of their most groundbreaking discipleship books yet, the Navigators has just published “Truth that Sticks: How to Communicate Velcro Truth in a Teflon World,” by Avery T. Willis, Jr. and Mark Snowden.  Based on their extensive experience in discipling people with inadequate literacy, or those who don’t like to read, Snowden and Willis gained experience in oral cultures and have thus developed a method of oral storytelling that can be used in any small group setting.

According to the book’s description, only half of all Americans spend their leisure time reading.  By teaching leaders an oral storytelling method, this discipleship book aims to expand ministry opportunities for churches and draw more people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Oral storytelling does more than make the stories of the Bible more accessible; it also unites families who use the methods to disciple their children.

Many different types of ministries have benefited from the truths that are expounded in the TruthSticks strategy.  Evangelists, missionaries, small group leaders, parents, Sunday school teachers and many others will benefit from the simple methods of oral storytelling that have been in existence for centuries.

Truth that Sticks is a great example of the helpful discipleship books available at NavPress.com.  The official publishing site of The Navigators, NavPress has an entire section devoted to discipleship books called Discipleship Inside Out.  Ministry leaders and individuals find this section to be a valuable resource for finding out about the latest discipleship books, lesson plans and study guides.

An eye-opening book, Truth That Sticks: How to Communicate Velcro Truths in a Teflon World, is written by Avery T. Willis, Jr. and Mark Snowden, both skilled communicators with a heart to reach the unsaved world with the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.
